Michael Adamovic has always drawn strong inspiration from the transcendentalists Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson—their writings taught him to better appreciate the wonders of the natural world and contributed to him venturing into related professions. He holds a degree in environmental studies from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. Over the years, Adamovic has been employed by the New York State Parks Department where he worked as an invasive species researcher using biocontrol agents to help mitigate the noxious mile-a-minute vine. He also spent time at the Department of Environmental Conservation as part of the “Trees for Tribs” program, which helps landowners reforest tributaries along the Hudson River. More recently, Adamovic has worked as a landscape designer and horticulturist at One Nature, LLC. He currently works at Catskill Native Nursery as a propagation manager, collecting and germinating the seeds of local ecotypes. Adamovic enjoys growing rare and unusual species not commonly offered in the horticultural trade. In addition to his day job, he operates a photography business, Adamovic Nature Photography. His favorite subject matter to photograph is the region’s many orchids. He is also the creator of the Facebook group, Native Plants of the Northeast—the largest native plant group on the social media platform. He is the author of three other books, Hudson Valley Reflections: Illustrated Travel & Field Guide, Hudson Valley History & Mystery, and Hudson History & Mystery, Volume 2. He lives in Highland, New York with his wife and two children (adamovicnaturephotography.zenfolio.com).
